If you read a few of my earlier posts you'll find a lot on the Skif. As of about four hours ago there is now a couple of additional WiFi antennas on floor two and three and the access is much better. The hotel itself still only has a 1 MB connection so it does get slow during the day but it is better than dial-up.

The town isn't really kid orientated beyond the two Turkish restaurants you'll find posts for. Expect the kids to get bored after a few days so make sure to load up on videos, games and pretty much anything else you can think of to keep them entertained. My daughter is nearly three and after four weeks we are struggling to keep her entertained. At least in the summer you'll be able to get outside which will help - the snow just melted here a few days ago. Petro is a small, northern Kazakhstan town and the facilities are consistent with that reality.

Glad you are finding my posts useful. I also found the general lack of information on Petro frustrating before we traveled. I've since found a bit more out there (and linked to most of it from here). Make sure to get yourself on the Petro adoption Yahoo group.

Thanks SO MUCH for this!!! We are heading to Petro this summer and will be taking our three sons, ages 6,9 and 10 and I too have scoured the internet to find anything about the Skiff or Petro. Keep up with the kind of info yoiu are sharing, it is very helpful. Anything you can share on the Skiff would really be appreciated by us (lots of photos maybe? Costs? More about the internet access? Is it wifi in the rooms? Hard to connect to?). Also kid oriented things that are available in town? THANKS A MILLION!! Just found your blog this morning and will read it all!
